Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority

DWASA

Public EnterpriseKawran Bazar, DhakaEst. 1963

Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, established in 1963, provides water supply and sewerage services to Dhaka's population of over 20 million. DWASA sources approximately 70% of its supply from groundwater through hundreds of deep tube wells, creating significant demand for hydrogeologists to manage an urban aquifer system under severe stress — the water table falls 2–3 metres per year. Hydrogeologists and groundwater engineers at DWASA work on aquifer characterization, well yield testing, arsenic monitoring, and planning the strategic shift toward surface water.
