DBHWD
The Department of Bangladesh Haor and Wetland Development manages the conservation and development of Bangladesh's unique haor wetland ecosystems concentrated in the northeastern Sylhet and Mymensingh regions. The haors are vast freshwater bodies supporting millions through fisheries, rice cultivation, and biodiversity, yet are highly vulnerable to flash floods and climate change. Hydrologists and environmental scientists at DBHWD work on water balance studies, flood risk management, and ecological monitoring of these critical inland wetlands using GIS and remote sensing tools.
