CEGIS is a self-sustaining public trust established on 16 May 2002 under the Ministry of Water Resources, evolving from the USAID-funded Environmental and GIS Support Project (EGIS). It is Bangladesh's premier specialized research and consulting institution for environmental and geographic information services, providing GIS, remote sensing, hydrological modelling, and environmental assessment services to government, NGOs, and international organizations. CEGIS maintains national environmental and hydrological databases and conducts cutting-edge spatial research on flood inundation, land use change, riverbank erosion, and delta dynamics. It is one of the most important employers for GIS, remote sensing, and environmental science professionals in Bangladesh.
