BMD
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department is the national authority for weather observation, forecasting, and climatological research, operating under the Ministry of Defence with origins dating to 1867. BMD maintains a network of over 35 weather stations and operates the cyclone warning system critical for one of the world's most disaster-prone coastlines. Scientists here analyze atmospheric, oceanic, and climate data to issue forecasts, storm surge warnings, and long-term climate assessments. BMD is a key employer for meteorologists, climatologists, and environmental scientists engaged in both operational forecasting and applied climate research.
